From 2025: Introduction of a general obligation to reduce packaging waste — including in the hospitality sector.
- Ban on single-use plastic cups and packaging across the entire HORECA sector (hotels, restaurants, catering).
- Mandatory reuse for certain service packaging (e.g. take-away, breakfast offerings)
- Ban on small packaging units (e.g. mini shampoo, lotions)
- Hotel toiletries may only be dispensed in reusable packaging formats that are not intended for individual guests and are not discarded after each stay.
Specifically affected:
Breakfast & restaurant: Phase-out of single-serve packaging (butter, jam); promotion of reusable systems (yoghurt jars, milk jugs)
Room amenities: Switch to refillable dispensers for hygiene and personal care products; elimination of single-portion packaging for amenities (e.g. cotton pads, shower caps)
