The blind spot in your sustainability communications

EmpCo compliance? Don’t leave it to chance.

You want to make sustainability visible. But EmpCo puts your entire communication to the test. Old claims need to be assessed, evidence needs to be found, and wording may need to be revised. What can stay? What has to go? And who handles this extra work alongside day-to-day business?

On top of that, sustainability claims are no longer managed by a single department. They emerge from marketing, sales, customer service, and a wide range of platforms — often faster than they can be checked. From 27 September 2026, the EmpCo Directive requires every one of these claims to be backed by evidence. Not just in theory, but in practice, and in a way every consumer can understand. It’s a never-ending task that keeps you from what really matters: communication that works.

The 3 biggest EmpCo challenges:

  • Claims out of control: A post here, a comment there — central overview? Nowhere to be found. This is how critical claims can slip out unnoticed.
  • Checking instead of progressing: Going through claim after claim, searching for sources, assessing wording… As soon as one piece of content is approved, the next one is already waiting. This slows your communication down.
  • Checked once, not safe forever: Changed evidence and new requirements can invalidate previous checks. Either you stay in a constant state of checking — or you live with the uneasy feeling that outdated content is still out there.

From claims uncertainty to clear decisions

How to keep track of your green claims

leadity lays the foundation for EmpCo-compliant communication. Our EmpCo tool reviews your sustainability claims in texts, documents, websites and social media. leadity identifies risks and shows you where action is needed.

  • Review claims centrally instead of piecing them together: Enter claims directly or review content from websites and DOCX and PDF files, such as marketing brochures and labels. Sustainability reports created in leadity can also be searched for relevant claims.
  • Clearly identify and prioritise risks: leadity gives you a clear overview of your checked claims, complete with risk scoring, detailed results, explanations, and sources. The dashboard shows you at a glance which statements are critical and where action is needed.
  • Improve critical claims directly:For claims that are not sufficiently substantiated, you receive a specific suggestion for wording that is more EmpCo-compliant. This turns an uncertain claim into a clear basis for further review and revision.
  • Keep sustainability communications under continuous review: Content can be monitored continuously via linked URLs and social media integrations. Email notifications flag critical claims. The results can be exported as a compliance report.

Step by step to substantiated sustainability claims

How to achieve EmpCo compliance — without slowing down your communication

Your path to EmpCo-proof communication with leadity starts here:

1. Capture claims and content centrally Enter individual claims directly in the AI chat or upload content for review: websites via linked URLs, DOCX and PDF files, marketing brochures, labels and sustainability reports from leadity. Integrated OCR recognition also extracts claims from image-based documents.

2. Identify relevant claims automatically leadity scans your imported content for sustainability-related statements, automatically identifies relevant claims and organises them for further review. This means your marketing and sustainability teams no longer need to search every document manually for claims that require review.

3. Assess risks transparently
Each identified claim is assessed systematically and presented clearly, including risk scoring, detailed results, explanations, and sources. The dashboard shows the overall results and the claims requiring the most urgent action. Search and filter functions help you stay on top of things, even when there are many results.

4. Revise critical claims directly For non-compliant or unclear statements, you receive a specific suggestion for wording that is more EmpCo-compliant. This shows your marketing and sustainability team directly how a claim can be clarified, adapted or replaced — and which claims should not be used.

5. Continuously monitor communication and document results
Through the social media integrations, leadity checks new posts for EmpCo-relevant risks. Connected websites can be monitored on an ongoing basis, and marketing brochures can be uploaded for a quick check. Email notifications alert you to critical claims and to instances where critical statements are used. You can export your results as a compliance report and pass them on for expert review by the agency for sustainable communication or for an optional legal review.

“A common challenge is the lack of orientation: What exactly needs to be done? How much effort is involved? Especially in light of changing regulations, this creates uncertainty for everyone involved. From my experience, a structured process that sets priorities and brings people across the company along is enormously helpful.”
